National Farm Tourism Survey

Help Us Build the First National Benchmark for Farm Tourism

Farm tourism is one of the fastest-growing corners of Australia’s visitor economy — but until now, no one has had a clear, evidence-based picture of where the sector actually stands. That’s what the National Farm Tourism Survey is here to change.

If you’re a farmer delivering visitor experiences — paddock tours, farm stays, cellar doors, paddock-to-plate dining, working farm days, or anything in between — we want to hear from you. Your responses will help build the first national benchmark of farm tourism operators: what’s working, where the gaps are, and what support the sector needs to grow sustainably.

Why we’re doing this

The insights gathered through this survey will be used to build a clearer, evidence-based understanding of the current state of farm tourism across Australia — from business maturity and visitor experience models to the challenges operators are facing on the ground. This isn’t about predicting the future; it’s about accurately capturing the present, so that investment, policy, and industry support can be shaped around what’s actually happening on farms right now.

Your privacy matters

The survey is completely anonymous, and all data collected is stored on servers based in Australia. No individual responses will be identified or attributed in any published material — only aggregated, de-identified insights will be shared.

What happens with the results

Findings from the survey will be compiled into a national report and shared publicly in October, with results and insights presented at the Australian Regional Tourism Convention. This will give operators, regional tourism bodies, and policymakers a shared evidence base to work from — the first of its kind for the sector.

Complete the survey, go in the running

As a thank you for your time, everyone who completes the survey before 31 July and answers a short question at the end will go in the running to win a one-day photoshoot of their farm experience, delivered by a regional photographer of our choosing, valued at $3,500 + GST.

At the end of the survey, alongside your email address, we’ll ask:

“In 25 words or less, describe the one experience on your farm you think every visitor should try — and why.”

The strongest answer, judged on originality, insight, and relevance, wins the prize.
